I am sure someone here will say “you did not know this?” but as there is a chance someone else missed this, I will share. It is easy to turn off autosave in mac’s native apps. I hate autosave, particularly in Script Editor as I like to control when saves happen (makes retreating to a previous, known state easier). Apparently this has been around for years. From http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2013/08/turning-off-auto-saving-in-textedit-and-other-mac-apps.html:
“To turn off auto save open up System Preferences. Select the General preference pane. Half way down the list there will be an option to disable auto save. It is titled ‘Ask to keep changes when closing documents’. Enable this checkbox. Now every time you make change in a TextEdit window, or other native app, it will ask you to save the change.”
