[MacTUG] Displays Menu items is missing in Mountain Lion

For those of you hooking Mountain Lion Macs up to projectors, for some lame reason apple has effectively killed the option to have a menu items icon for Displays show up in the menu bar. Yes, there still is a check box in the Displays Systems Prefs to have it show up in the menu bar, but it does not really work for most people, including my setups. My understanding is that in the rush to make it Airplay friendly, they have missed the dual monitor (or projector using) crowd. There are some workarounds

You can also have the displays system window show up by typing the option & decrease brightness (the F1) keys simultaneously.
