why changing the administrator's password on Mac OS X Server prevents 
Windows clients from connecting:

     The username/password you use to join the domain is only used to 
join the domain, but the username/password you use to set up samba is 
used to perform all kinds of operations in samba. If you change that 
password, windows clients can't log in. See this thread from the 
Apple discussion lists for more info.
