In my case I did have to manually remove Office 2011 for my old iMac. I had both versions running. Not certain what happens with a more modern version.

Subject: [MacTUG] Office 365, does it I install old Office

Hi there
I always manually clean out my old copies of Office before installing new versions. Do clients need to manually uninstall previous versions of office before 365 is installed? I can’t remember!
