Adding on to this; This method doesn’t always work right away for High Sierra since Apple switched to using slim installers from the App Store. You can tell if your “Install macOS High Sierra.app” is the slim version by its size. If you want to create a USB installer by using the previously mentioned command then you need to use an app like MacOS High Sierra Patcher (www.dosdude1.com <http://www.dosdude1.com> ) to download the full installer application. You don’t need to use any other part of the application, just the button to download the full 5GB installer.

Subject: [MacTUG] Command line USB boot disks

At our last meeting we were talking about making USB boot disks and I mentioned that I just use a command line. I do this (instead of finding some app to do it) not because I am clever (no comments, Dani!) but because I am lazy. The command lines are simple:

Eg (as outlined here https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201372) as long as your USB drive is called MyVolume and your installer is in the Applications folder, this will create a Sierra drive…

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app
