[MacTUG] Creating Configuration Profiles without the Server.app

OK the Server.app is a bargain at $27.99 and it is the easiest way to create mobileconfig files, but you really wanted to you can create them without this. They are after all, “just” xml files ;-)

Someone wrote a script that converts an plist into an mobileconfig file https://github.com/timsutton/mcxToProfile

BTW this is neat info too, how to convert a binary XML file into a human readable XML format http://osxdaily.com/2016/03/10/convert-plist-file-xml-binary-mac-os-x-plutil/

But likely if you want to play with mobileconfig files it is probably best just to grab the server. If you are not intending to use the server for other services you could likely just put it on any mac you have kicking around and only have profile manager service enabled when you are creating mobileconfig files (It will also turn on webservices as the front end to profile manager is webbased, but you could turn that off afterwards). Naturally it is probably best if you had it on a spare mac kicking around (or a VM or whatever)
