[MacTUG] VNC no longer waking up computer

Hi all
I'm wondering if I'm missing something really simple here...

We have a faculty member who upgraded his computer to Sierra and has not been able to reliably connect via VNC since. We've tracked it down to when then computer goes to sleep - it simply won't wake up like it did before even though "Wake for network access" enabled under Energy Saver. I can replicate on my upgraded Sierra mac too. Spinning on connect and then timeout. All computers are wired and on campus network (although his initial attempts were from home over VPN). The only solution seems to be to set the computer to never sleep.

Any ideas?

Trevor
