I think you mean launchd

we use Lingon as the nice friendly interface to it

BUT
I'm not sure that you actually want emerge running as a system daemon; 
by having it in the user login, it does actually "call home" in the 
users name

that's one reason I backed out the change on my machine - it violates 
privacy, and that wasn't very clear to me in the advertising
