[MacTUG] Dueling dock.plists

Hi there
I know that if one is not using Workgroup Manager (WM) to control the users’ settings, that the default location is the User Template. For reasons I will not get into right now, I am not currently controlling the dock through WM but through a com.apple.dock.plist that is in User Template.

Most of the time this works. Sometimes users, especially if they are first logging on, and even more frequently, if they are the first AD/OD user to log on, they will get the standard apple dock (you know, full of all the iApps, GarageBand, Photobooth, etc.)

So it is obviously grabbing it from somewhere else, I am guessing from /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/default.plist

The other candidate is /Library/Preferences/com.apple.dockfixup.plist which I remember deleting in the old days.

I am going to try playing with these on a test machine and see what happens. Does anyone know why this is happening or which of these fellows is likely the culprit?
