[MacTUG] System crash and then

It maybe a motherboard issue or hard disk issue, I know of another  
user with an 24" iMac where they system was acting very strangely and  
their system turned out to have a problem on the motherboard and a bad  
drive ( both needed replacement).

I would suggest arranging for the IST hardware guys to run their  
hardware tests on it and check to see if the underlying problem is  
hardware, before spending too much time playing around looking for a  
software solution.
