[MacTUG] Getting around Adobe Updater

Under 10.5 at least if I run 
"/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5/Adobe Updater"
as root I get
"Insufficient Rights
Adobe Updater can be run only by users with administrator rights."

If I run it as a lower Admin account, it works
(but according to a forum post only for a while).
The alternative is to right-click "Show Package Contents"
then run "Contents/MacOS/Adobe Updater" which will open "Terminal"
and do what it's supposed to.
