Dear Students,

If you are a student in the Laurier BBA program (including any double degree programs with another Laurier or UW faculty), or the Laurier Economics with Financial Management Option and entering your third, fourth or fifth year of your program, you are eligible to apply for a position with the Laurier Student Investment Fund (LSIF). The position will run from approximately July of 2018 to July 2019. Since 2001, the LSIF has provided students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about equity analysis. LSIF students get training in equity analysis over a twelve-month period and help make decisions with a real pool of invested monies. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a one-term course credit. We warn you that the workload involved in the fund is significantly higher than that of a standard one-term course credit. It may also be harder to earn the same grade for this course as for others. More information on the analyst selection process can be found on the link below:
https://www.lsif.ca/contact

Students who are successful in being accepted into the Laurier Student Investment Fund will then be signed up for BU400 in the Spring 2019 term to receive course credit for their LSIF work. As an analyst you will be required to analyze two companies in-depth. You will be required to develop and justify with detailed industry and company information an investment thesis on the stock. This thesis and background analysis is to be presented in a 15 to 25 page investment report on each stock. It will not be a "cut and paste job" but will be a diligently written report. This analysis will be the basis for a detailed financial forecast and valuation model. You will then need to present your investment thesis on a conference call during which you will be questioned by portfolio managers, faculty and interested alumni. You will also be required to follow an additional stock for the fund and update the portfolio managers on any important developments.

The Fund is now taking applications from students interested in being an equity analyst. Approximately 15 analysts will be selected. Successful applicants will be 1) interested in pursuing a career in investments 2) have at least an A- average and 3) have the time available to work as an equity analyst both when you are on your coop term and when you are back on campus. If you work in Investment Banking, we will shift most of your work to your non-coop terms. In each of your non-coop terms, you will need to devote approximately at least 100 hours to the fund.

The application deadline is Friday, May 25, 2018. A subset of applicants will be interviewed in June. To apply, you first need to e-mail lsifpm at gmail.com<mailto:lsifpm at gmail.com> the following items:

1) Your resume which clearly explains any relevant work experience.
2) A copy of your academic records that shows all grades up to Winter 2018 term.
3) A maximum 200 word cover letter that demonstrates your past, current and future interest in investments.
4) A copy of the attached spreadsheet that includes the information we request from you.

In sending this e-mail, be sure to use the Subject title: LSIF Applicant

Also, be sure to send the e-mail from your Laurier or University of Waterloo account. Sometimes e-mails from other domains are blocked.
