[Bridges] Bridges 2020 Virtual Conference: Launch and live events

The Bridges 2020 Virtual Conference will launch this Saturday, August 1st!  We hope that you'll visit us at https://2020.bridgesmathart.org/, where we'll offer this year's papers (including many videos and companion websites), the art exhibition, the short film festival, and a full poetry reading.  There will be discussion forums throughout the site so that you can connect with other participants.

We'd also like to alert you to a few recent additions to our live program: the Bay Area Art and Math Social Hour, and a Virtual Informal Music Night.  Complete information about these two events, including how to sign up, is appended below, and can also be found at https://2020.bridgesmathart.org/social/.

We've also created a page for other informal gatherings at https://2020.bridgesmathart.org/informal/.  Please feel free to use the discussion section there if you'd like to organize get-togethers with others.

We encourage you to use the hashtag #Bridges2020 when talking about the conference on social media.

Bay Area Art and Math Social Hour

Bay Area Art and Math group welcomes anyone associated with Bridges to visit our group on Saturday, August 1, 1 pm - 3 pm PDT. We will send you a Zoom link about an hour before the event begins, provided you give us your email address though this form:

We'll begin with a short history of our group, which includes artists and mathematicians in the greater San Franciso Bay Area. Vincent Matsko got the ball rolling, after realizing at Bridges 2017 that we do indeed have a critical mass of mathematicians/artists in the Bay Area to support regular meetings. 

Then we'll use virtual break-out rooms for some random visiting and exchange of ideas. We'll scramble the rooms several times, depending on how many people join us.

A Bridges Informal Music Night (in California)

We will all miss the zany unpredictability of the usual Bridges Informal Music Night. This event offers one way to enjoy each other's musical creativity. 

The event will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at 11 am PDT (9 pm in Helsinki) via Zoom.

We will send the Zoom link about an hour before the show starts to every email address submitted here.

Performers will be asked to submit a short video of their live performance by Tuesday, August 4. We'll add a live element by asking performers to give a one-minute introduction to the video. Details for performers appear in the form.

None of us knows how this will turn out, but that seems to be the rule for Bridges Informal Music Nights!
