Thanks for the offer Glenn!
I almost jumped at your kind offer. Not just because I am a retro packrat (don’t tell Mary burden where I have stashed ancient macs in the office haha). But I decided against it because I already have an external firewire drive.

Why would I want an ancient firewire drive? Every now and then some fellow packrat will being in a mac from the 18th century to be sent to ewaste, and I like to boot it and securely erase the drive*. Most macs will boot in target disk mode from a USB drive and most have a recovery disk, but not all. And my don’t feel like burning a copy of Lion OS X onto a DVD just to nuke the machine. So that is why I keep my trusty old La Cie 500Gig 400/800 firewire drive!

*If it is a mac that has easy access to a hard disk I will just physically destroy the disk as that is easier,

Subject: [MacTUG] Free 2.5" external drive case - Firewire 400

Hi,

I thought I would ask before sending it off for recycling, does anyone have any use for a external 2.5” case ( no drive ) with Firewire 400 port?

Note, while it does have a USB port, it is a 1.1 version which would only be useful if you wanted a really really slow access drive. LOL
