I’ve recommended Avast only if people insist since it can be annoying if unpaid. Apparently it is on the list from central Advancement office.

Subject: [MacTUG] Antivirus for MacOS

Hello folks

It was pointed out the IST info page for endpoint security had outdated info

Any thoughts for a recommended MacOS solution for those that want one?

For reference
https://www.macworld.com/article/3263722/best-antivirus-for-mac.html

I had been recommending Sophos in general as it has always been reliable and not overly expensive.

And there is this "free" and light anti-virus for MacOS has been getting a fair bit of talk and may be a good in-between measure of "better than nothing" (rather like Windows Defender...)
