[MacTUG] 64bit version of emerge

Thanks to Eric, there is now a 64 bit version of Emerge available for testing at
www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~erick/emergecli<http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~erick/emergecli>

It is a new recompile of the source code and with some quick testing, it looks good to me as I have tried it on a Mojave mac that normally would complain bitterly about it being 32 bit. HOWEVER (repeat, HOWEVER), I would suggest people test it a bit more before deploying and not rely on my testing. Also note this is just the executable so you would use it with the same Launch Agent as before.

As you should know, at some point in the near future (it is planned for this term) there will be a new solution available (that is part of the suite that watsafe.app that is available for ios, android and windows). But while we are waiting, it is great to have the 64 bit option of emerge.

Frankly my plan is that I will still continue to use the 32 bit version on Mojave (even tho it complains) and reserve this version for when Catalina based Macs start arriving (which could be in a few weeks from what I have read).* I think this is a reasonable plan given that it will give service to 64bit macs that would otherwise be ignored, and I will leave all 32bit macs (including Mojave macs) until the Watsafe app is available.

Comments?

Thanks again Erick!
Don

*And is likely already on campus as there are public betas available that are easy to get.
