NOTE: This message only applies to those that use Volume Purchasing Program (VPP). Likely you should know if this note applies to you but please see “Does this apply to me?”

We are meeting at Monday Nov 11th at 10:15-12:00 at EC2-1112 with Luis Marroquin, from Apple Computers who has generously agreed to help us migrate our accounts from the Volume Purchasing Program (VPP) to Apple School Manager (ASM). VPP will be shutting down in December so we need to do this soon.

You are very strongly encouraged to attend — especially if you have purchased licenses for software from VPP (vs merely using it to access free software such as GarageBand or iMovie). It is a more complex migration if you have paid for software as you need to ensure your licenses have copied over to ASM. Needing to reacquire your copies of free software clearly is not as problematic. It is possible to migrate yourself from VPP to ASM (in fact I have) but if you have actually purchased software (I had only used it for free software) you could risk losing your purchased licenses.

Please let Glenn, Cassie and myself know if you:

  *   Are using VPP
  *   Can attend
  * Have purchased vs free software

Does this apply to me?
VPP is a program used for licensing and installing software from the Apple App store on to managed Macs and iOS devices. This message and meeting do not apply to you if you are just individually downloading software from the apple App Store to individual computers or iOS devices. You only use VPP if you are managing a fleet of these devices and having them automatically install software from the Apple Store using a “Mobile Device Manager” such as JAMF, Parallels Mac Manager, or Apple’s Server.app (Profile Manager).

But if this is still unclear whether this applies to you, please contact Cassie, Glenn or myself.
