Hi everyone,
Sharing some info related to troubleshooting installing Cisco AnyConnect on an unmanaged Mac.

Someone was having difficulty installing the newest version of Cisco AnyConnect on their MacBook running Mac OSX 10.14 Mojave.

I suspect the problem was due to an old version of Cisco AnyConnect not being properly uninstalled – more than likely the application had been mistakenly dragged into the Trash instead of using the “Uninstall AnyConnect” application.

As a result when they would try to install the latest available version it would prompt with a “Cisco AnyConnect already installed” error.

So here’s a summary of what needed to be done…

  1. Log onto the machine with an account that has admin rights.
  2.  Open the “Terminal” application.
     * At the prompt type: sudo pkgutil --forget com.cisco.pkg.anyconnect.vpn
     * Enter the admin account password when prompted.
     * The Terminal app will respond that the package has been forgotten.
     *   Close the Terminal app.
     *   Restart the machine.
  3. Log on and run the Cisco AnyConnect installer.
     * It will get part way through the installation and then fail.
     * Close the Cisco AnyConnect installer.
     * In Finder go to the “Applications” > “Cisco” folder and now run the “Uninstall AnyConnect” application.
     * Restart the machine after the uninstall is complete.
  4. Log on and run the Cisco AnyConnect installer – and this time it should complete the install.
  5. Configure Cisco AnyConnect and confirm that it will work via a wireless connection.
