A message for application administrators

A reminder and clarification of work occurring in preparation for the MC power shutdown

Friday, August 17, by 6:00 p.m.

  *   Application owners to complete shutdown of redundant equipment/services in MC

Sunday, August 19, noon – approx. 4:00 p.m.

  *   IST will shut down all development VM’s

Monday, August 20, noon – approx. 4:00 p.m.

  *   IST will shut down all down production VM’s in MC

About the phased shutdowns: They are occurring ahead of the main MC shutdown to give clients and app admins an opportunity to catch any missed mission critical server going offline. Services will begin to appear offline during these shutdown periods.

During and after the shutdown period: If you notice any server or service that is expected to be online during the MC shutdown is not available after noon on August 19 (development) or August 20 (production), immediately submit a Request Tracker (RT) ticket to rt at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:rt at uwaterloo.ca> and copy mcshutdown at lists.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:mcshutdown at lists.uwaterloo.ca>:


  *   Please include the name of the server that has gone offline
  *   If unsure of the server name, please describe what service (or part of a service) has stopped working and the approximate time it stopped working
  *   If space is available, IST will attempt a last minute migration of the server to East Campus 2 (EC2)
