[MacTUG] UPDATE: WatIAM system upgrade scheduled for April 9-12

UPDATE:  The replacement of the identity management system known as WatIAM is progressing well. Quality assurance testing will take place Thursday morning, and the system should be available to clients by 1:00 p.m. on April 12.

Subject: RESCHEDULED: WatIAM system upgrade now scheduled for April 9-12

RESCHEDULED: The replacement of the identity management system known as WatIAM has been rescheduled to begin on Monday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m. until Thursday, April 12 at 8:00 a.m.

What is the impact? The WatIAM system will be down and unavailable to clients during the upgrade process.

Important notes:

  *   Authentication services will remain available.

  *   Identity management services will be unavailable for the duration of the outage, including new identity creation and changes to user information such as emails and passwords.
  *   Identities in the current WatIAM system prior to the planned outage will have been provisioned already, including post-dated or future dated items during the outage period.
  *   Dependent applications, such as myHRinfo, will continue to process new application accounts during the outage, however the new identity (and therefore user access) will not be provisioned until after the identity system change is complete. These new accounts will be queued and processed when the new service is available.
  *   Critical requests for changes to user access can be directed to the IST Service Desk at helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext. 44357.

After the upgrade: While most end-users will not see a significant change, the introduction of SailPoint IIQ technology will bring considerable changes for WatIAM administrators.

The initial schedule for the identity management system replacement was based on an aggressive risk-mitigation driven timeline. Rescheduling this work will allow the project team to better balance the risk of the old system with delivering quality in the new system.

What is happening? The identity management system known as WatIAM will be replaced. This foundational work is part of a multi-year program to update campus identity and access management services.

When is it happening? Starting Friday, March 9 at 4:30 p.m. until Tuesday, March 13 at 8:00 a.m.

What is the impact? The WatIAM system will be down and unavailable to clients during the upgrade process. Note: Authentication services will remain available.

After the upgrade: While most end-users will not see a significant change, the introduction of SailPoint IIQ technology will bring considerable changes for WatIAM administrators.

Training required: WatIAM administrators will be required to complete training for the updated system. An email with training course registration details will be sent directly to administrators on file. If you or a member or your team does not receive an email, but feel they should have WatIAM administrator access, please contact Peggy Day, peggy.day at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:peggy.day at uwaterloo.ca>.
