Danny mentioned this today at MACTUG.

This is a nice way to download a package from the Mac App Store and have it available to install as a package on a client mac without having to sign in to the app store (on the client mac) to install it. Obviously, you would need to ensure you are licensed to use it, but I would see its value in the free products that are on the App store (such as Microsoft Remote Destkop).

An aspect of this process – which could be a positive or negative depending on the situation – is that since you are creating a situation where the app store (on the client machine) will not know this product is installed, you will not be offered (or bothered by – depending on your perspective) any updates to the package.

Frankly this is fine for the main scenario I am considering using it, such as deploying Microsoft Remote Desktop to a computer lab (where it is rebuilt often enough to not worry about updates).
