[MacTUG] More on the "death" of imaging

Marlon sent out one grim (but good, and reliable) piece about the death of imaging (https://derflounder.wordpress.com/2017/01/10/imaging-will-be-dead-soon-ish/) but here is another one:

http://michaellynn.github.io/2016/10/04/mDMacOS/. While it is a bit long I encourage any folks that do deployment to give it a read. Some tidbits from it:

· APFS (already used in iOS) could arrive as soon as the next major OS* and with its arrival, an insane number of things will change for us Mac Adminstrators.

· It looks like many of the things us Admins currently like to do (such as messing with the User Template and other directories) will likely be fully blocked out and the solution will be to use Profiles and DEP!

Many of our imaging techniques will cease to be possible, in fact, it the whole notion of non-apple imaging may disappear. We may move into a model where re-imaging a Mac is a rare event and when it does happen it is done with Apple’s direct involvement (think of how we reimage an iOS device), and software is then added on top of that.

*This is inferred from a 2016 WWDC talk (it is only half an hour long and here: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2016/701/) about Apple File System (APFS) and where they said it would be the default file system sometime in 2017!! It is worth watching
