[MacTUG] ssh keys for wireless

Herbert is correct, that name is meaningless. You can copy the key anywhere you like too and it will (absent server-side configs preventing this) work there. Not that I encourage that. :) Best practise is a separate key per machine, protected by a passphrase. Macs since 10.5 or so have allowed you to cache that passphrase in your login keychain if you like.

There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works.

That is just basically a comment showing who generated the key.

If you use ssh-keygen –t rsa “john at doe.com<mailto:john at doe.com>” then the public key would have john at doe.com<mailto:john at doe.com> at the end.

Setting up MacFusion is not the problem, setting up the ssh keys is.
If I look at my .ssh/authorized_keys on the server:

ssh-rsa RANDOM_CHARACTERS username at mymachine.math.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:username at mymachine.math.uwaterloo.ca>

What does one use for the last part if the machine is on wireless?

Hi Dani,

Not quite clear on what you are trying to do, so I’m just guessing that the laptop needs to mount something on the server running ssh using macfusion and you’d like to use ssh keys for authentication.

If so, then this article might help:

Trying to get user running MacFusion which require setting up ssh keys but
the laptop is only used on wireless. Tried setting hostname to the .local using scutil but that didn't help.

Suggestions?
