Looks like they exist in 10.11.
Automator is only the big puzzle pieces. AppleScript is the finer detail like Apple Events.
Perl is better suited for text manipulation. They can call each other as needed.

Did you try "chmod go-rw"?

Subject: [MacTUG] Future of applescript/ Automator as run-only?

Hi gang

I have a couple of applescripts that I have used for years to perform some tasks in my Labs. Everything is fine but I am wondering if I should start moving away from Applescript towards Automator. I could do everything l want to do with Automator but I like applescript.

One of the things I like about applescript is that you can make the script or app as run-only with the user unable to edit or see the process.

So question 1: Has anyone heard anything about Apple’s roadmap for good old applescript?

Question 2: Any suggestion for making an Automator App (not the Automator Application but the little workflow-apps is creates) not editable? I can ensure that the Automator Application is not on the lab computers and can lock things down with permissions but are there any other suggestions? (BTW there is no sensitive data such as passwords in these scripts/Apps, I mainly want to prevent users from tampering with scripts).
