Hi Marlon,

When I got to add a printer under Mavericks, I see that the laserjet 4050 is one of the options, see screen capture. Do you not see it listed?

I also know that the OS’s software update has updated my HP drivers a couple of times, so it appears that the OS software update is keeping these drivers up to date.

If you don’t see it, then you will need to install the driver using the steps outlined on this page http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03413323-7%257CdocLocale%253Den_US%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&ac.admitted=1411494637783.876444892.199480143

Here are the network printer instructions:

Method two: Add a printer using a network connection

To update the LaserJet drivers and software, use one of the following methods:

  1.
Make sure that the printer is connected to the wired or wireless network.
NOTE: Add your HP product to your wireless network from the product control panel. Apple Software Update does not provide an installer flow through the setup and install process.
  2.
Click the Apple menu ([cid:5960CF6C-9D14-405E-8BFB-7894332B43A2 at uwaterloo.ca]) and then click System Preferences.
  3.
Click Print & Scan ( [cid:886468F3-FB94-4545-9C36-DCABA5736281 at uwaterloo.ca] ) and then make sure that your printer is in the list of available devices.
NOTE: If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign ([cid:866AAB3F-6BB7-4E78-8458-DE48A6A1C3F0 at uwaterloo.ca]) at the bottom of the left pane, click the name of your printer, and then click Add.
  4.
Under Nearby Printers, click the name of your printer.
NOTE: Make sure that the printer Kind is Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction.
  5.
Click the Use box, select the name of your HP printer model, and then click Add to add the printer to the queue.
NOTE: If your printer is AirPrint compatible, AirPrint will automatically be selected. To use the HP drivers, make sure to select the HP model name (not AirPrint) in the Use box.

  6.
If you are prompted to install any printer software, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  7.
Click the Apple menu, click Software Update, and then wait while ASU checks for available updates.
  8.
Select any available HP software updates, and then click Install.
NOTE: Install all available HP software updates for best printer performance and functionality.
  9.
When prompted, enter your administrator account name and password.
  10.
After the software updates complete, restart the computer (if required).
NOTE: Quit and restart any applications that were open before adding the printer to use the updated HP software features.

I am building a Mavericks laptop and was surprised when hp says to go to software update to get the latest printer drivers. When I do that, I don't get any option to install any printers. When I search for hp printer drivers, I get a commercial package. What is going on here? How can I get this driver which I could get 6 months ago when I was testing printing under Mav.
