[MacTUG] Website configuration change enforcing HTTPS-only - October 24

What is happening? We are now enforcing HTTPS-only on uwaterloo.ca with a few exceptions for legacy content (such as the older CLF files).

When is this happening? This change has been implemented, October 24 at approximately 1:30 pm

Why is this happening? The use of both HTTP and HTTPS is confusing for users; can cause duplicate entries on search engines; and may be causing intermittent ‘Too many redirects’ errors on WCMS sites.

What is the impact to websites? This should fix the intermittent ‘Too many redirects’ errors on WCMS sites. Benefits also include fixing duplicate search entries, higher ranking from search engines due to HTTPS-only content, and greater security. Having websites operate HTTPS-only is emerging as a best practice on the web.

Note: For non-WCMS sites served from HTTP, embedded content from within the WCMS may cause mixed-content warnings to be displayed to site visitors. This does not affect linking to WCMS pages.

Issues or concerns? Please report any issues or concerns to rt-ist-wcms at rt.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:rt-ist-wcms at rt.uwaterloo.ca> or the IST Service Desk (CHIP), helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca>, ext. 84357.
