[MacTUG] Wireless and ResNet: changes to access controls

What is being done? The below changes will be made to campus and ResNet wireless networks.

Why is it being done? These changes are required to accommodate the rapidly growing number of wireless users on campus.


1.      Wireless: On July 6th wireless user IPs will be changing from the existing 172.21.0.0/16 subnet to the 10.20.0.0/14 subnet. IPv6 addresses have been also been assigned to these networks.

The new subnet will be subdivided in the following manner:

IPv4: Network = 10.20.0.0/14 divided into:
Campus = 10.20.0.0/15 divided into:

*        eduroam = 10.20.0.0/16

*        uw-guest/uw-unsecured = 10.21.0.0/16

ResNet = 10.22.0.0/15 divided into:

*        eduroam = 10.22.0.0/16

*        uw-guest/uw-unsecured = 10.23.0.0/16

IPv6: Network: 2620:101:f000:700::/62 divided into:
Campus = 2620:101:f000:700::/63 divided into:

*        eduroam = 2620:101:f000:700::/64

*        uw-guest/uw-unsecured = 2620:101:f000:701::/64

ResNet = 2620:101:f000:702::/63 divided into:

*        eduroam = 2620:101:f000:702::/64

*        uw-guest/uw-unsecured = 2620:101:f000:703::/64

On-campus traffic will appear from these addresses. Off-campus traffic will be translated to 129.97.124.0/23, as it currently does. IPv6 addresses are public and do not require translating.



2.      ResNet: In July and August, wired resnet user IPs will be changing from existing public 129.97.x.y networks to a private 172.31.192.0/18 subnet. The IPv6 subnet 2620:101:f000:3000::/54 has been assigned.

On-campus traffic will appear from these addresses. Off-campus traffic will be translated to the 129.97.131.0/24 subnet. IPv6 addresses are public and do not require translating.
