[MacTUG] X11 under 10.5

I did some more digging on a machine that arrived Tues
and when I try to open a xterm under X11, it doesn't open and
Console shows:

4/29/09 1:40:18 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (0x112810.launchd[347]) Cannot transfer a setup GUI session. 
4/29/09 1:40:18 PM com.apple.launchd[347] (0x100d70.login[346]) Bug: launchd_core_logic.c:6292 (23714):1100: kr == 0 
4/29/09 1:40:18 PM org.x.startx[234] login: PAM Error (line 396): Cannot make/remove an entry for the specified session 

but strangely Terminal will launch an xterm.
