[MacTUG] File sharing on OS X clients

Apple seems to recommend using "Inherit Permissions"
rather than changing the umask since 
"unintended and possibly severe consequences may occur".

Is anyone aware of the dire consequences if I do
sudo defaults write -g NSUmask -int 002
to change it from the default of 022?

We use HornWare: SharePoints and we currently have the problem
that directories/files created on the local machine aren't set up
properly since the user isn't going through SharePoints.
