Hi friends,

This Winter is already shaping up to be a neato term. We're looking
forward to a few awesome discussions, a Steeped Thoughts Award Lecture with
astrophysicist Dr. Renee Hlozek, and, of course, our weekly Tea & Talk.
Keep an eye on your inbox and our facebook page for more information as
these events approach!

We're hoping to broaden and deepen our community this term. We have a warm
and welcoming room (Phys 104, come visit us!), and we want to use it more
often and effectively this term to benefit our community! We would love
for the room to be a place where people can gather, make connections and
socialize, work or take a relaxing break from work. But in order to open
up our room more often, we need more folks to volunteer to hold room hours
:)

If you are interested in contributing to the FemPhys community, we'd love
to have you work with us this term!! By committing even a few hours per
week or term, you can help out FemPhys immensely in our efforts to put on
interesting events and build community!

Here's a summary of the things you can do with FemPhys:

*Room volunteering*

   - role: exist in the FemPhys room, welcome people into the room, respond
to breaches of the Code of Conduct, sign out library books
   - training: about 45 minutes once a term
   - time required: at least an hour per week, regularly scheduled
   - perks: you get the code to the FemPhys room & can use the room
whenever you like, as long as you treat being in the room as running office
hours. The room has ample tea, a microwave, a fridge, cutlery dishes, and
more available for you to enjoy!

*Postering*

   - role: walk around areas of campus and stick posters up with another
   FemPhys volunteer
   - training: people unexperienced with postering are paired with people
   with experience
   - time required: ~2 hours per poster run, flexibly scheduled. Even one
poster run per term is super helpful.
   - perks: posters are the number one way people hear about FemPhys
events. You'll get to hang out with another FemPhys volunteer, and have the
satisfaction of having helped immensely to get the word out about our
   events!

If you are interested in volunteering, come on out to Tea & Talk this
Tuesday Feb 6 (12-1pm in Phys 104) to chat with us in person about the roles.
If you can't make it, or prefer text-based communication, respond to this
email to let us know what (if anything) you are able to do this term!

Thanks!
Morgan and Emma
