[Faccus] ADS Security Identifier (SID) history value removal – November 24

This has already started to happen in Library as of November 24, 2016 and I’ve had to fix a bunch of server permissions and remote desktop permissions for my users which I wasn’t aware this was occurring so soon.

There should been more notice about this as we had older servers with ADS SIDs still, this caused a lot of unnecessary chaos.

Manfred had asked us about this with my supervisor Carl Nagel and was told they would hold off until we gave the go ahead.

Subject: [Faccus] ADS Security Identifier (SID) history value removal – November 24

What is happening? IST will be removing the ADS Security Identifiers (SIDs) history value from users and groups in the Nexus Active Directory (AD) that were originally created in the ADS domain and migrated to Nexus for all faculties.

Why is this happening? The ADS domain is no longer being used widely and is in the process of being decommissioned. The SID history values that are being removed are not used in the Nexus AD and no longer need to exist.

When is this happening? Wednesday, November 30 by noon.

What is the impact? This process will not affect most users, but some may experience loss of access to some SharePoint sites and/or network resources.

What do you need to do if you lose access? Submit an RT, rt at rt.uwaterloo.ca<mailto:rt at rt.uwaterloo.ca> or contact the IST Service Desk, helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext. 44357.
