What is happening? Some users have reported an issue sending email. The issue may be impacting emails sent from both on and off-campus.

What is the impact? The result of this issue is the false identification of .doc and/or .docx file attachments as viruses and as a result, the message blocked from being sent. Affected users attempting to send an email should receive a bounce back message indicating that the email could not be sent. The actual wording and look of this message will be specific to the email client being used.

Resolving the issue: The fix for this issue must come from the third-party service provider with which this issue originated. When ready, IST will ensure the fix has been applied correctly and the issue resolved. The fix should be in place by the end of day today, but additional communications will be sent when the issue has been resolved.

Questions or concerns? Please submit to the IST Service Desk, helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext. 44357.
