The item below was sent to Academic Support areas to start conversations about Windows 10 and how Windows 10 can be integrated with our Workplace Desktop environments.
I am forwarding this as an FYI. Please do feel free to share with others and join in the conversations on the Community Site; and share the survey across campus.

Subject: Investigating deployment of Windows 10 to campus - resources and survey now available

To All Academic Support staff,

What is happening: In our current managed environment, Windows 7 is the primary operating system supported on desktop computers. When Windows 8 was released, managed workstations were not upgraded as the changes that would have been introduced were many and would have been disruptive to the way we worked. Microsoft has since refined and improved the Windows operating system resulting in a much improved product, Windows 10.

What we are doing: As Windows 7 moves towards retirement and current supported standards require upgrading, IST is beginning to investigate how Windows 10 can be deployed across the areas that it supports. But before we do that, we want to hear from you. We'd like to ask you to consider your day-to-day tasks and how you work. Then let us know:

* What software needs to be on your workstation?

* What tasks does Windows need to do for you?

* What can IST do to make your desktop work better for you?

How you can help us: We have created a Community Forum in SharePoint where you can speak with us and those interested in Windows 10. Use the resources on this site to learn more about Windows 10 and be part of the discussion by posting questions and comments, including responses to the questions asked above. Also, to gain a better understanding of our Community's familiarity with Windows 10, a survey has been created and responses will be used to craft training and support materials that better meet your needs. Our goal is to make Windows 10 work to the best of our ability.

* The forum is available at: https://sharepoint.uwaterloo.ca/help/windows/

* The survey is located at: https://sharepoint.uwaterloo.ca/help/windows/Lists/Windows10/overview.aspx

* If you are interested in learning more about Windows 10, Microsoft provides an excellent overview: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-10/getstarted-whatsnew-cortana
