[Faccus] Reminder: Netapp storage maintenance - April 29

Reminder:  Netapp storage maintenance tomorrow between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m.



Please note: The production VMware cluster in EC2 is served by storage that WILL be upgraded during the window.  The setup of the storage and VMware servers is such that it should not cause an issue, and previous testing and the last upgrade (Late February) indicates that it should be fine, however, application owners are advised to verify their applications at the conclusion of the upgrade.

Subject: Netapp storage maintenance - April 29


What is happening? Netapp storage maintenance will be performed to apply a vendor update. This work will impact all clients using a file* share.

When is this happening? Wednesday, April 29 between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m.

What is the impact? During the maintenance window there will be a 2 minute interruption in service, then approximately 10 minutes of service, then another 2 minute interruption of service.

This work will affect all clients (faculty, staff and students) using a file*​ share, including:

·         N: drive

·         R: drive

·         roaming profile

·         Enterprise systems (e.g. Quest, JobMine, myHRinfo) that depend on Netapp storage will be unavailable.

·         Automated processes scheduled to occur during the upgrade window should be rescheduled or monitored closely for connection issues (e.g. MATLAB).


What will users need to do? If there is content on their share they will need access to during this maintenance window, they should copy it to their workstation and work on it there. They can then place the content back on their share after the maintenance window has passed.
