What is happening? A critical vulnerability disclosed by Microsoft on Tuesday, April 14 requires that servers that provide Exchange, Lync and SharePoint services be restarted after a security update has been applied.

When is this happening? Updates will be applied to various servers between 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 and 2 a.m. Friday, April 17.

Who will it impact? Users actively connected to a server when it is restarted will have their connection interrupted and they may be required to log back in. At this point, unsaved edits to SharePoint documents and emails being composed using a browser may be lost (i.e. in OWA: https://connect.uwaterloo.ca). Users should save often or refrain from creating/updating documents in SharePoint or composing emails in OWA during the maintenance Window. Lync phones and clients will switch from one server to the next but any active phone calls will continue uninterrupted.

Questions/concerns? Please contact the IST Service Desk, helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext. 44357.
