[Faccus] Moving ENV behind the campus firewall – September 24

What is happening? Faculty of Environment building routers will be modified to place networked devices behind the campus firewall, which denies inbound connections by default.

Why is this happening? In accordance with audit requirements and the ongoing Campus Firewall Project, campus networks will be positioned behind a perimeter firewall. This will be the first faculty moved en masse - we have already successfully moved several academic support buildings.

When is this happening? Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 a.m.

What will be affected? All networked equipment (servers, computers, printers, etc) in the EV1, EV2, EV3 buildings.

What you need to do: If there are servers in the affected buildings listed above that require off-campus access without a VPN connection (eg public webservers), create a ticket in the request tracking system specifying the IP address, hostname, which tcp or udp ports are required to be open, and why the exception is required. IST Information Security Services will work with Faculty IT staff to evaluate the request.

Questions/concerns? Please contact the IST Service Desk, helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext 84357.
