What is happening? Updates to SharePoint (both sharepoint.uwaterloo.ca and mysharepoint.uwaterloo.ca) service to integrate with the Office Web Apps service. Office Web Apps provides a browser version of Microsoft Office 2013 for viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents even if Microsoft Office is not installed on the local device.
When is this happening? Tuesday August 12, 2014. The process will begin at 9:00PM, and will be completed by 9:15PM. SharePoint will continue to be available during this change.
What is the impact to SharePoint users? Office Web App services will be enabled allowing users to view and edit Microsoft Office documents in the web browser.
Why is this happening? This is part of the normal maintenance of IST services.
What users need to do before the migration: We recommend you make sure any files from SharePoint (and MySharePoint) are closed and saved.
After the update: There should be no impact to end-users. Users will be given the option of opening documents in a web version of Microsoft Office instead of downloading the documents to the device. SharePoint sites may be configured to always download to a desktop client, or to always open in the web client.
Questions/concerns? Please contact the IST Service Desk (CHIP), helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:helpdesk at uwaterloo.ca> or ext. 84357.
