Comment:        What is happening? 
IST will be upgrading the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10).

When is this happening? 
Tuesday, January 28 between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.

How does this impact you? 
- If you use a Q5, Q10, Z10 or Z30 device activated on the University of Waterloo BES10 server, you may not be able to send or receive email on your device during maintenance window. 
- Any email received during the maintenance window that could not be delivered will be delivered to your device when the service resumes. 
- Any email messages that you compose and send on your device during the maintenance window may fail to send and may need to be sent again. 
- IST will send this notice to owners of devices affected by this outage.

Why is this being done? 
To make vendor-provided updates to the server software. This is a follow-up to the December 3rd upgrade which was rolled back when issues were encountered that IST and BlackBerry Technical Support were unable to resolve. Investigation after the rollback showed no apparent reason for the failure. In the event that this upgrade fails again we have a plan in place to roll back quickly.
