Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the formal description and documentation of an enterprise. EA typically focuses on three core descriptions: the "current state" of the enterprise; its "future state"; and the roadmap or plan for achieving the future state. EA is business-driven and focused first on business strategy: the object is to document strategic goals and to ensure that the analyzed functions, processes, systems and enterprise components are aligned with and support the execution of that strategy.
Does this sound like something UW needs? How does EA work in practice? How can uWaterloo ever achieve the 'desired state'? An EA working group (EAWG) was formed in the fall of 2012, to discover the value of EA at uWaterloo. This presentation will provide an introduction to EA, illustrate EA using uWaterloo examples, describe the EAWG's guiding principles and recommendations, and discuss EA integration with IT projects.
