PRMIA Challenge 2020 – Competition Announcement
We are reaching out to invite you to form a team to participate in the 2020 PRMIA Risk Management Challenge.
The Risk Management Challenge is a case competition that empowers undergraduate and graduate students by taking them beyond the classroom and giving them exposure to real-world business situations. The Challenge offers students the opportunity to apply the concepts they have learned and showcase their knowledge, critical thinking skills, leadership, and presentation abilities while competing to win a US$10,000 prize. The competition is open to all faculties, more information and registration details can be found at https://prmia.org/Shared_Content/Events/PRMIA_Event_Display.aspx?EventKey=8364&_zs=f7hEa&_zl=bu3m1
The Risk Management Challenge presents teams of three to four students with a case study, drawn from a real-life business scenario, over three rounds of competition.
Preliminary round challenge (Case study solution submitted online) -- January 10 - February 11, 2020. Based on preliminary round, regional finalists are announced on February 20, 2020 to participate in the second round in Toronto. Based on results of the regional (2nd round), finalists then will be announced to participate in the final international round.
Early registration deadline is December 1, 2019 and the fee is $100 per a team (after December 1, registration fee is $200 and registration deadline ends on January 6, 2020).
How to register: Form a team consisting of 3-4 students, choose a team leader, and have the team leader to send a single email to Marcia Taylor at mathbus at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:mathbus at uwaterloo.ca> with information containing
a) your team members’ names and student IDs,
b) program you are in,
c) one page resume for each team member, and
d) a team name you choose - all in one email.

We will register only 3 teams and pay $100 early registration fee for each team – on first come first served basis – no exceptions.
Alternatively, you are free to form a team and register yourselves at the PRMIA Challenge site if three first teams have already been registered or simply you want to do it on your own. If you do so, however, please kindly let us know as we need to keep track of how many University of Waterloo teams have registered.
2nd Round Financial Support: We will financially support only one team for the 2nd Round held in Toronto (Regional Round). If there is more than one team qualifies for the Regional Round in Toronto, priority will be given to the team with mostly upper year students. However, additional teams are welcome to participate in the second round on their own (if selected) and pay potential expenses, like bus fare to Toronto, possible overnight lodging, etc. The second round is one day affair (usually from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm) and doesn’t require for most participants to overnight stay in Toronto, especially many students happen to be have co-op term in Toronto. If a University of Waterloo team is selected for the 3rd International Round, we will discuss financing options at that point.
Please note that Dr. Elshan Alekberov is intending to accompany the team(s) to the competition.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email Marcia Taylor at mathbus at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:mathbus at uwaterloo.ca> or Dr. Elshan Alekberov at ealekberov at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:ealekberov at uwaterloo.ca>.
