Hi everyone,

Farheen will present her recent work on behaviour recognition with an
instrumented walker tomorrow in the AI lab. This work showcases several
statistical modeling techniques (e.g., HMMs, CRFs, MCMC) for time series
data on an interesting application with real users from a retirement
community (see title and abstract below).

Title: Comparative Analysis of Probabilistic Models for Activity
Recognition with an Instrumented Walker

Speaker: Farheen Omar

Date: June 25, 2010 at 11:30 am
Location: AI Lab (DC 2306 C)

Rollating walkers are popular mobility aids used by older adults to
improve balance control. There is a need to automatically recognize the
activities performed by walker users to better understand activity
patterns, mobility issues and the context in which falls are more likely
to happen. We design and compare several techniques to recognize walker
related activities. A comprehensive evaluation with control subjects and
walker users from a retirement community is presented.

This work was done in collaboration with Mathieu Sinn, Jakub Truskowski,
Pascal Poupart, James Tung and Allan Caine
