We are pleased to announce that Fields Medalist William Thurston will
be a plenary speaker at the Bridges Coimbra Conference!

William Thurston, a Professor of Mathematics at Cornell University,
USA, is the 1982 Fields Medal winner in Mathematics.  He is the
former Director of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in
Berkeley, California.  Professor Thurston was an inspirational
figure in the establishment of the famous Geometry Center at
University of Minnesota.

The prestigious University of Coimbra, established in 1290, is one
of the oldest in Europe and the first academic institution in the
Portuguese-speaking world!

As always, the Bridges Conference will feature talks and artworks
presenting the latest ideas in mathematics and the arts from experts
around the world, including regular and short papers, invited talks,
a visual art exhibition, hands-on workshops, a math/art short movie
festival, a musical event, a theater event, and an excursion.

The deadline for Regular Paper submissions has passed.  The deadlines
for Workshop Papers and Short Papers are March 1st and March 15th, 2011,
respectively.  Submissions to the Art Exhibition will be accepted
during February 15th - March 15th, 2011.
