[SSDC-Safety] Safety Captain Responsibilities

Attention team safety captains,

I will not be holding a safety captains meeting this term, instead I will be reminding you of your responsibilities and expectations.

The role of a safety captain is important and must be carefully assigned member. Team leads cannot be safety captains.
Please ensure that your team binders are up to date, this includes team register, safety information and SOP's.
You need to complete two work bay inspections per term. These inspections must be completed with another team member. New safety captains are encouraged to complete these inspections with more senior safety captains.
The UW Safety Office requires all labs to meet WHIMIS 2015 compliance. (Your bays are labs in the eyes of the safety office).
What this means is that all chemical labeling and MSDS must be current and commercial sourced chemicals have WHIMIS 2015 compliant labels. (Products bought at the likes of Canadian tire are exempt). I suggest you start with a thorough review of your bays chemicals and only keep essential items. All MSDS should be removed from your binders and only current sheets replaced. Your binder must have a table of contents.

Mid term safety reviews will be conducted by myself in the coming weeks (Victoria will email a sign up sheet).

Please make sure that one of your bay inspections have been completed and that your team has a solid plan for updating to WHIMIS 2015 compliance before i review your bay.
