Lecturer In Quantum Information Theory

[Closing date: 19th May 2014]

Applications are invited for a lectureship in Quantum Information
Theory, tenable from 1st October 2014 or a date to be agreed. A
lectureship is similar to an assistant professorship in Northern
America.

We seek an outstanding researcher and teacher from any area of quantum
information theory who will be expected to develop an internationally
leading independent research programme as well as to undertake
teaching and administrative duties as appropriate. The post will be
held in the School of Mathematics within the Applied Mathematics
group. The post will be integrated within the interdepartmental
Quantum Computation and Information Group (QCIG), one of the world’s
leading groups in quantum information processing; see
http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/Research/QuantumComputing/ for more
information on staff and research interests.

The Applied Mathematics Group at the University of Bristol is
internationally recognised with interests spanning applied mathematics
and mathematical/theoretical physics, including quantum chaos, fluid
mechanics, mathematical material science, quantum information,
statistical mechanics, dynamical systems and random matrix theory. The
Group has strong links with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical
Research, which focuses on discrete mathematics and funds about 20
postdoctoral fellows in the School of Mathematics.

The School of Maths is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme
aiming at advancing women's careers in
mathematicshttp://www.maths.bris.ac.uk/admin/life/women/ - therefore
we particularly welcome applications from women for this post. The
University has numerous family friendly policies which can be found on
the Positive Working Environment websitehttp://www.bris.ac.uk/pwe/

The appointment will be within Pathway 1, Lecturer 1b. Grade J,
according to qualifications and experience, and is open-ended, subject
to the University's standard probation, progression and promotion
procedures.

Applications must be received by midnight on 19th May 2014.

It is expected that interviews will be held in July 2014.

For informal enquiries please contact Prof Tanniemola Liverpool
(t.liverpool at bristol.ac.uk), or Prof Noah Linden, Head of Mathematics
(hod-maths at bristol.ac.uk).
