We are reaching out to invite you to form a team to participate in the 5th Edition of the 2021 McGill International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC), the world’s premier university buy-side finance challenge, open to students of all faculties (mipc.ca<http://mipc.ca/>).
This year’s edition of the MIPC will be hosted virtually again this Fall, beginning on September 13th and culminating with the semi-final and final rounds on November 4th and 5th. Students will share their different perspectives regarding the current low-yield environments.

The MIPC has cash prize rewards of CDN $50,000, a figure that makes this competition one of the most lucrative university competitions in the world. For further details and prize money distribution among the winning teams, please visit www.mipc.ca<http://www.mipc.ca/> or see the attached brochure.

MIPC is encouraging the best and brightest students from across the globe to compete and submit solutions to the 2021 MIPC. The case will be released in September 2021, submissions are due at the end of September 2021. Then, the top 25 teams will be officially invited to compete online for the semi-final and final rounds of the challenge.

Team forming and registration: If you are interested, please form a team of up to 4 students (team can be consist of 2 or 3 students, too), select a team leader, who then emails us: 1) first and last names; 2) Program and term; student number; and 1 page CV for each team member – all in ONE email. Please give a very serious consideration and commitment to participate – we want to avoid a situation when students do form a team and get registered but end up not participating at the end. That takes up funds and possibly spot from those who are genuinely interested.

Early bird registration is open now and the registration fee is CND $143.72 per a team (includes taxes), a 50% discount from the standard registration fee. Please note that early bird registration ends on June 30, 2021 (after that, standard registration fee is CND $287.44 per a team and ends on September 12, 2021).

Please note: Math, Business and Accounting will financially support only one team (preferably from upper year students) by paying CND $143.72 early bird registration fee on a “first come, first served basis.”

If there more than one team is formed, students are welcome to form a team and register on their own to participate, by emailing oriane at mipc.ca<mailto:oriane at mipc.ca>

If more than one team from Math Business is registered and then selected to participate in the semi-final and final rounds, Math Business might be able to consider reimbursing 2nd team’s CND $143.72 early bird registration fee. Please also note that the registration fee is the only expense that is required to participate in the competition.

Virtual competition format: Once the case is released starting September 13, 2021, self-formed and registered teams will submit their cases – instructions and additional information are published on the competition website https://mipc.ca/
The top 25 teams will be selected by organizers to compete in the semi-final round. The semi-final round will incorporate pre-recorded video submissions with subsequent live Q&A; the final round will be fully live.

Students should choose someone to be a team leader who will be in contact with Tina Cochrane (tcochran at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:tcochran at uwaterloo.ca>) or Dr. Elshan Alekberov (ealekber at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:ealekber at uwaterloo.ca>) throughout the team forming and registration process. Please refrain from multiple people emailing and leave that task to your team leader to communicate with us. The competition site is very well organized and you can find all answers to all of your questions.

Thank you,
Math Business and Accounting
