Hi All,

Women in Computer Science (WICS) committee has invited a distinguished
lecture series speaker, Marie desJardins from University of Maryland,
Baltimore County (UMBC) on May 31st.
This event is sponsored by CRA-W (Computer Research Association's Committee
on the Status of Women in Computing Research)

*The following events are organized with the speaker:

Monday, May 31

2 - 3 pm, DC1304, Panel discussion on graduate school.
    Panelists:
Marie desJardins (UMBC), Faculty members and graduate students.

3:30 - 4:30 pm, DC1301, Social event.

4:30 - 5:30 pm, DC1302, Talk: Multi-agent Communities: Trust, Networking,
and Swarms by Marie desJardins.

Abstract:

"Intelligent agents" are becoming more intelligent and more ubiquitous,
both in physical environments (such as sensor networks) and in virtual
environments (such as games, online markets, and virtual words like
Second Life). To operate successfully in these environments, human
designers must have effective tools for designing agents, and the agents
themselves must have effective tools for understanding and adapting to
their environment.
The talk will center on three questions about how to design and adapt agent
societies:

 * When (and how much) should agents trust each other?

 * Who should agents work with to successfully complete tasks that
require the coordinated efforts of several agents?

 * How can human designers configure and control large communities of
   mobile agents?

Thanks,
Elena and Swathi
