All --

As Chair of the Women in CS Committee, I'd like to encourage
you to consider responding to the call for opinions wrt the new
lounge below. It's important that the lounge be an environment
that women will use and find inviting. I understand that
the deadline for receiving comments in next Monday.

thanks, nancy

Hello:

The School is moving the CS lounge to DC 3336
   http://www.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~alubiw/lounge-plan.pdf
A professional designer from Plant Operations will design the space,
with input from the School about what we want.

The space subcommittee would therefore like the opinions of CS
grad students, staff and faculty:
   - What would you like to use the lounge for?
   - What kind of look and feel would you like?

Some possible functions are:
  - lunch - fridge, microwave, tables, seating for small/large groups,
     vending machines, honour-system food/drinks
  - coffee - espresso machine, comfy seating
  - informal meetings/discussions - reconfigurable furniture,
whiteboards, video display, laptop connection, internet
  - recreation - cable TV, wii, foosball table, ping-pong
  - information - magazines, books, newspapers, bulletin board

Look and feel is harder to capture, but some ideas are:
  - the high-tech look
  - a more cozy style
If you know of good (or bad) examples of lounges, please send links to photos.

The subcommittee's job will be to weigh and assess the suggestions.
Although the space is big enough for several sub-areas, it has finite
size, so please prioritize your suggestions. What do you care about most?

Please send your suggestions in email to cs-lounge at lists.uwaterloo.ca.
The comments will be visible to everyone in an archive
   https://lists.uwaterloo.ca/pipermail/cs-lounge/
You may subscribe to this mailing list if you wish, but you can send email
and look at the archive without subscribing.

Alternatively, you may add handwritten comments to the posted sheet in
the current lounge, or fill out one of the forms there.

Finally, as mentioned in my last email, you can arrange to see the space
by contacting one of the members of the subcommittee:
